Leon Imber has earned the hugely competitive 12 month internship to join the editorial team at the London office of international broadcaster ESPN in June, taking a year out from his Sport Journalism BA(Hons) course.

Leon has been reporting on football matches involving Brighton & Hove Albion, Lewes and Eastbourne Town as part of his degree, as well as covering Southend United for a local paper in his native Essex – but he is looking forward from the summer to covering some of the biggest names in world football and other sports for ESPN.

Leon said: “I can’t wait to get started. I feel like I’ve been working my way up, reporting for a local paper and getting press box experience at games with Southend United. This is a huge opportunity – getting hands-on experience with ESPN was way too good to pass up, and I'm very grateful they picked me for it.”

Leon also shared some specific hopes for his internship. “A dream reporting gig would be a big final like the FA Cup or Champions League. Being able to report on a Premier League match through ESPN would be amazing too. Other than football, I’ve always really wanted to cover a tennis grand slam - Wimbledon would be the dream.”
