Conditional offers
Applicants holding a conditional offer who subsequently fail to meet the conditions of their offer to obtain an unconditional offer - shall be refunded (unless they obtain an unconditional offer for another course).
The refund will be subject to a £100 administration fee.
Unconditional offers: students requiring a Student Visa
Before Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) assigned
If the university is unable to issue a CAS then the deposit will be refunded. If an option to defer is offered we will hold the deposit to use for following year’s course of study. Any refund will be subject to a £100 administration fee.
After CAS assigned and before application for visa (or application for visa is withdrawn before being decided)
The university will not normally grant a refund unless severe, extenuating personal circumstances justify not taking up offer. Please contact us if you are seeking a refund and outline details of your extenuating circumstances. A member of the international team will then contact you directly to request documentation.
If there is the option to defer the student's place, the university will hold the deposit to use for the following year’s course of study. Any refund will be subject to a £100 administration fee.
After CAS assigned and Student visa obtained
The university will not normally grant a refund unless severe, extenuating personal circumstances justify not taking up offer. Please contact us if you are seeking a refund and outline details of your extenuating circumstances. A member of the international team will then contact you directly to request documentation.
If the student does not use the visa to travel to the UK and defers their place, the university will hold the deposit to use for the following year’s course of study. Any refund will be subject to a £100 administration fee.
After CAS assigned – visa application delay
The deposit will be refunded upon receipt of evidence that the visa application was made by the relevant deadline for the type of application made (standard service or priority service). Those who did not apply by the relevant published deadline will not receive a refund of the deposit payment.
After CAS assigned - failure to enrol by published enrolment deadline
The deposit will not be refunded unless evidence is provided that the failure to enrol was a direct result of a visa processing delay by UKVI. In this case, evidence is required that the visa application was made by the relevant deadline for the type of application made (standard service or priority service).
After CAS assigned and Student visa refused
Refusals on the grounds of credibility will only be eligible for a deposit refund if the refusal is subsequently overturned as incorrect through a successful UKVI Administrative Review.
The International Student Advice and Support team will be able to advise a student on submitting an Administrative Review if it appears that the refusal is incorrect. In exceptional cases where an Administrative Review is unsuccessful, deposit refunds will be considered on a case-by-case basis following a review by the International Student Advice and Support team and Visa Compliance team.
Applicants are required to contact the International Student Advice and Support team if they are called for a credibility interview as part of the visa application process, and the team will advise the applicant on whether they should pursue the application. Those who do not seek advice prior to attending the UKVI credibility interview will not be eligible for a deposit refund if their visa application is subsequently refused.
Credibility refusals which are not challenged through the Administrative Review process, or where the applicant has been refused a visa following clear advice from the International Student Advice and Support team that their application is likely to be refused, will not receive a deposit refund.
Deposits will not be refunded following a visa refusal for reasons such as deception, providing false documents or where the Home Office claim it was unable to verify the documents with the applicant’s bank/educational institution, except where a successful Administrative Review finds that the initial decision was incorrect.
Student must provide clear and complete copy of the UKVI Refusal Notice which can be considered on the advice of our immigration advisers and Visa Compliance team. Any refund issued will be subject to a £100 administration fee.
Where an applicant has deferred their offer to the next intake for the course and they qualify for a refund for one of the reasons above, their refund will be retained for the purpose of the deferred admission rather than refunded often shortly before the applicant will need to pay the deposit again. If the applicant subsequently relinquishes their deferred offer the deposit will be refunded. If the applicant pursues their deferred offer and their visa application is refused again for any reason the deposit will be retained.
