HIV

Approximately 38 million people are currently living with HIV worldwide.  

We collaborate and work with national and international organisations, including the , , charities and governments to improve health and wellbeing across the whole community.

Partnerships working to eliminate Hepatitis C 

Our collaborations have played a major role in helping achieve the World Health Organisation goal of eliminating the Hepatitis C virus by 2025, via the development of a simple care pathway for high risk populations in drug users and the homeless.  

Islet transplantation 

We are also changing the lives of the 400,000 people in the UK with Type 1 diabetes, reducing hospitalisation and hypoglycaemic episodes.

By educating clinicians and patients we have helped to take the groundbreaking Islet Transplantation Therapy, which works when other treatments have failed, to more patients, with a national programme for islet transplantation and improved access to treatments. 

Diabetes patient care

Since the late 1990s, the 香蕉直播 has been helping people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, with research which improves the understanding of the disease. 

Through partnerships, we have taken these medical breakthroughs to diabetes sufferers, offering significantly improved opportunities for treatment, transplant and ways of living with the condition. 

Blood pressure

We are helping to prevent strokes and heart attacks in the elderly with our groundbreaking research into high blood pressure, or hypertension, in the over 80s. 

A third of adults, and two thirds of those over 75 in the UK, suffer from high blood pressure - a silent but deadly condition which can lead to strokes and heart attacks. 

Our research has, for the first time, provided blood pressure targets for the very elderly to reduce the risk of death by informing treatment plans to improve clinical outcomes.  

Innovative approaches to treat liver disease 

We have helped develop groundbreaking innovations such as: 

• CarbaliveTM – a novel oral treatment for cirrhosis and fatty liver disease 
• DC Bead®, which enables highly targeted treatment of tumours 
•  to leading the national research network BLAST (building links in ageing science and translation) and tackling liver disease – one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

Wound healing 

We have a long-standing reputation for pioneering patient-driven treatments and technological innovation in regenerative medicine.

Clinical application specialities include: cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, musculoskeletal trauma and diseases, neurodegenerative diseases and sensory dysfunctions, and wound healing. 

Chronic ulcers and burns are a global healthcare challenge affecting more than 20 million people a year, many of whom suffer severe pain and discomfort and a reduced quality of life.

Our research is discovering a new generation of ‘theranostic’ dressings that not only actively speed up wound healing but also provide doctors with diagnostic information on the patient’s healing process. 

Childhood asthma 

Over 1.1 million children in the UK are currently receiving treatment for asthma. Our research looks at a personalised approach to treatment based on the genotype of the individual child.
