This test cell has been used in several research projects to evaluate advanced combustion strategies for emissions reduction in diesel engines at operating points typical of city driving conditions.
The Ricardo Hydra 2 has enabled us to study the effect of compression ratio on the optimal strategies for controlling the fuel injection equipment (FIE) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and the relationship between the combustion chamber shape and fuel spray.
The design of experiments (DOE) method has been applied to define the set of test conditions, and correlations for the responses to the control parameters derived by applying stochastic process modelling techniques.
