The work of over 500 final year students will be displayed across the university’s city centre Grand Parade main building and in the newly-developed Edward Street site, making the show one of the largest free exhibitions in the south-east.

The exhibition will showcase art and design works, performance events, and architectural and scholarly displays. The show will celebrate the achievements of the graduating students and offers viewers a chance to discover emerging creative talent.

This year’s graduates follow in the footsteps of alumni including fashion designer Julien Macdonald OBE and Turner Prize winners Keith Tyson and Rachel Whiteread CBE.

Elinor Harston, 21-year-old final year sculptor student, was inspired to create a light experience on film after suffering a photo-sensitive seizure: “I’m now super careful about light but at the same time I’m also super drawn to it.

"The film is close up and disorienting. You have to decide where to stand and the light and images can make you want to step back. But at the same time the second light, down a diminishing corridor is super comforting; it’s like the perfect light. But as you walk towards it the walls are closer and you find it becomes an uncomfortable experience.

“There’s always been a contradiction in my work between tension and relief.”

Elinor said her course had helped her grow as a person: “I’m much more self-aware and confident. The critiques have made me more confident in my work and more confident in talking about it.

“It’s a real community feel. You’re encourage to learn from other years. As a third year our duty becomes to get that community bond going – you mentor a first year, and we invite each other to social functions to bond.”

As well as exhibiting at the Graduate Show, fashion students will showcase their creations in a catwalk show as part of the prestigious , 5 June-8 June, at the Truman Brewery, London.
